With the theme of ‘poetic cinema’, Saudi Film Festival returns for its eighth edition

The film-loving community of Saudi Arabia are again set to enjoy a plethora of amazing films as the Saudi Film Festival is returning back for its eighth edition starting from June 2-9.

The festival will be taking place at Ithra in Dhahran and will be themed ‘Poetic cinema’. Through the theme, the festival will put across aesthetic symbolism and philosophical connotations that stimulate the creative imagination.

The main aim of the film festival is to enrich the local cinematic scene and promote their talents by paying tribute to the local greats. The festival brings together talents from the world of cinema wherein it offers seminars, advanced training workshops and screenings of Palme d’Or films, considered the films with the highest merit at the Cannes Film Festival.

Apart from boosting local geniuses, the festival fosters global collaboration and this year the highlight will be on Chinese cinema. It will screen a selection of films from China and publish a set of translated knowledge books to support the festival’s role in enriching Arab content in the fields of cinema and filmmaking.

The details of the festival were unveiled at the recently held press conference by the Director of the Saudi Film Festival and announced that the ones interested in competing are invited to submit their entry via the Saudi Film Festival website through March 26.

The eighth edition of the festival will also honour Khalil bin Ibrahim Al-Rawaf, the first Saudi Arab filmmaker to become a Hollywood actor, and Khaled Al-Siddiq, a Kuwaiti producer, screenwriter, and film director, considered to be one of the most important pioneers of the Kuwaiti cinematic movement.
